This juicy wine brings red fruit to the front. Plum, raspberry, strawberry accompany lavender, red licorice, and earl grey tea. Our medium-bodied wine balances earth notes and fruit while hints of tobacco, white pepper, and toast come through.
The Pocai Vineyard has been continuously farmed by our family for over 100 years, ever since Betty Ballentine’s grandfather purchased it in 1906. Purchased with a pile of gold coins, Pocai Vineyard is the heart and soul of the Ballentine Family Estate. Located on the southern edge of the Calistoga Appellation. The soil is Bale gravelly loam, the rockiest soil of our three vineyards, the fertility of the soil is low, but the drainage is excellent and is perfect for growing powerful red grapes.
Our fourth vintage of the newly planted Malbec from the Pocai Vineyard gave us enough volume to use as a blender and also bottle some on its own. Our first vintage from this vineyard found its way into almost every wine as a blending. It was such a lovable expression of Malbec, that it brought life and complexity to almost everything it came in touch with. Since then, we wanted to show what a special and rare wine this was to our members.
