2016 Fig Tree Cabernet Sauvignon

Fig Tree Vineyard

Stunningly rich, full-bodied, with an unctuous texture, loads of crème de cassis, licorice, and subtle background oak. The wine is approachable now and will evolve over 10-15 years. This wine is soft and feminine and everlasting. A real gem from the 2016 vintage. The palate mirrors the nose, and the soft acidity and silky voluptuousness let the finish linger for some time.

Vineyard Notes
This Cabernet Sauvignon was planted on the Fig Tree Vineyard, located at the northeast edge of the St. Helena appellation in Napa Valley. Usually the last of our sites to ripen, the rocky and loamy soil of Fig Tree helps devigorate the vines and improve the tannin structure of the grapes. Since it’s shaded from the early morning sun, peak exposure is late in the day. As the warm ground helps the grapes to ripen, the sun lowers over the Mayacamas, causing the berries to take on a slightly translucent cast.
Winemaker Notes
The 2016 Fig Tree Cabernet Sauvignon was selected from our best performing section of vineyard. We took careful measures to ensure only the properly mature fruit made it into this wine. This allowed us to acheive maximizing color extraction and tannin structure. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was gently handled in the winery and hand punched down three times a day. Pressed off early to maintain fresh fruit vibrancy, this wine was aged in 100% new French oak. The wine is given ample time for tannins to combine and the palate to gain weight, structure, and complexity.
