A big, luxurious Merlot packed with aromas of raspberry, cherry, plum and apple; this wines’ a cornucopia of fruits. Big rounded tannins and fruit-forward flavors help make this a Cabernet drinker’s style Merlot. The true fruit of this wine is accented by the vanilla spices and toast from oak. There is good weight on the palate and a rich velvety texture. It has a luscious black cherry and raspberry flavor that is concentrated and full and jammy. The wine finishes with nice fresh fruits and characters of caramel, vanilla and framboise. Enjoy this versatile wine with steak, poultry or other light meats, but to be honest we have no problem sitting back and enjoying it on its own.
These vines are planted on our premium Pocai Vineyard location, in one of the warmest locations in the Napa Valley. This vineyard is ideal for ripening mature tannins and flavor in our Merlot grapes. 2014 was a vintage of steady warm weather which allowed flavor and tannin development to keep pace with sugar accumulation, creating excellent, well-balanced flavors. That gave this Merlot great concentration and a silky texture. The rockier soils of this vineyard site accentuated these attributes to bring about the highest quality grapes our vineyard can yield.
The 2014 vintage grew very balanced tannins for our Merlot. Our Merlot is usually all about hang time, the more we get the more the Merlot gives us. The 2014 vintage allowed us plenty of hang time, and that made the winemaking a breeze. We always extend the maceration of some of our Merlot looking for a richer and more complex blending with the more fruit forward shorter maceration lots.
