Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
There’s a reason Robert Parker awarded this wine 91 points. Simply, it’s luscious. You’ll start with hints of citrus and green apple and finish with crème brule. The palate is rich and full with flavors of poached pear, caramel and butterscotch. The long finish has great balance.
Vineyard Notes
Our Chardonnay is grown in our Fig Tree Vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain in the St. Helena Appellation, a location we feel very well suited to big, rich, full-bodied Napa Valley Chardonnay. The soils in this vineyard contain high potassium levels. This allows for a higher pH in the finished wine while holding good acidity. It is the perfect situation to yield our reserve quality Chardonnay.
Winemaker Notes
At Ballentine Vineyards, we barrel ferment our Chardonnay in a combination of 75% new French oak and 25% Neutral oak. This Chardonnay is kept on the lees and the lees stirred twice monthly until bottling. Fifty percent of the wine is allowed to go through Malolactic Fermentation, giving us an opulent Chardonnay with great mouthfeel.
